“Aquatic Animal Health in a Changing World”
44th Annual Conference of the
International Association for Aquatic Animal Medicine
April 21-26 2013
Hosted by The Marine Mammal Center,
at Cavallo Point Lodge, Sausalito, California, USA

The International Association for Aquatic Animal Medicine (IAAAM) was founded in 1969 and is an organization of individuals who are professionally interested in and devote a significant amount of time to the practice of aquatic animal medicine, teaching and research in aquatic animal medicine, or the husbandry and management of aquatic animals.
A recent rise in the reporting of diseases in marine organisms has raised concerns that ocean health is deteriorating. Humans are having dramatic effects on aquatic animal health, both directly as a consequence of shipping, fishing and energy exploitation, and indirectly via effects on climate, prey and pathogen distribution and habitat alteration and pollution.
This conference will focus on human impacts on aquatic animal health worldwide, bringing together leaders in the field from each continent. Emphasis will be made on integrating individual animal health assessments with wild population status. The gathering of interdisciplinary experts enables discussion amongst health experts, enhancing collaboration, training, and is a key opportunity to foster international partnerships. There will be hands on training workshops on how to diagnose anthropogenic impacts (ship strikes, barotraumas, fishery interactions, oil spills) on marine mammal health preceding the conference.
Workshops will be held at The Marine Mammal Center. Lectures and accommodation will be at Cavallo Point Lodge, Fort Baker, California, an award winning, LEED Gold certified, conference facility in a historic building complex.
